ABC No Rio Building

This art exhibition and performance building is seeking Passive House certification to align with long term institutional goals. The new 8000SF ABC No Rio building will be in line with the group’s environmental politics by targeting Passive House Certification, the most rigorous energy standard in the world, as well as LEED certification.

  • Program.  The new building for this group consists of performance spaces, exhibition spaces, and artist studios. 

    Services.  For this new commercial artist gallery space, ZED is providing consulting to achieve the Passive House Standard, building science consulting to address heat, air, water, and moisture flow in the construction system, and HVAC design for the mechanical systems. 

    Funding.  ABC No Rio is a project in conjunction with the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs and Economic Development Corporation. The institution raised $1.5 million in private funding, have received $3.15 million in support from the City of New York, and $275,000 from the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation. 

    Certification.  The institutional building is targeting Passive House certification and Local Law 84 requirements by achieving USGBC LEED Silver equivalent requirements.
