Please join us for a tour of a Newton net zero energy home under construction.

Go behind the scenes to learn about the design and construction of a green home that will produce as much energy annually as it consumes. ZeroEnergy Design, the architect, and Auburndale Builders, the contractor, will explain how the project achieves exceptional energy performance, healthy indoor air quality, superior thermal comfort, and long term durability. The event includes a tour of the building and systems while the walls are still open for viewing, plus a short explanatory presentation.

Passive House Accelerates

The largest Passive House conference in North America, the NAPHN16 Conference & Expo, included a conference program book: Passive House Accelerates which is available online.

2016 Passive House Symposium Success!

2016 Passive House Symposium was a resounding success! Speakers, vendors, and attendees all gathered at District Hall in Boston for a full day of amazing content and knowledge sharing.   Panels covered a variety of topics, including the legislative process, selling Passive homes, wall sections, and multifamily buildings.

PRISM Awards: 'Best Net Zero/Passive House’ and ‘Best Energy Efficient Project’

The 2016 PRISM Awards honored ZeroEnergy Design and Thoughtforms with two awards: ‘Best Net Zero/Passive House’ and ‘Best Energy Efficient Project’ for the Lincoln Farmhouse. Hosted by the Builders and Remodelers Association of Greater Boston, the PRISM Awards seek excellence in building, design, and industry related categories.

The Lincoln Farmhouse, a collaboration between Thoughtforms & ZeroEnergy Design, demonstrates that families who desire a green home do not need to compromise on style, space or comfort. With more than a year of measured occupancy to date, the home unquestionably provides exceptional energy performance, healthy indoor air quality, water efficiency, thermal comfort, and long term resilience, all within a welcoming, New England aesthetic.

6th Nationwide for Sustainability

ZeroEnergy Design was selected for the national 2016 ARCHITECT 50 list, a list of the top architecture firms across the country generated annually by Architect magazine, the Journal of the American Institute of Architects.

After more than a decade of high performance design, ZeroEnergy Design fared exceptionally well against far larger firms, including placing 6th nationwide on the Sustainability list. 

Contributing factors include that over 82% of the firm’s designed projects exceed the AIA 2030 goals, and for those post-construction projects with collected data, 87% met the predicted energy use intensity goals with real world performance.

Stephanie Horowitz Moderates AIA New England Passive House Panel

At the up-coming AIA New England 2016 Regional Conference, ZeroEnergy Design's Stephanie Horowitz will be moderating the panel:  PASSIVE HOUSE AND MAINE - How did a small rural state become a national design leader in energy efficiency?

The workshop panel will focus explore architects and builders in Maine as early adopters of the German energy efficiency standard, and their holistic architecture that raises technical performance to the same level as aesthetic design.

Architect magazine named ZeroEnergy Design on the ARCHITECT 50 list!
ZED also placed 6th for Sustainability in the United States!

The national 2016 ARCHITECT 50 list, a list of the top architecture firms across the country, is generated annually by Architect magazine, the Journal of the American Institute of Architects.

Architects were rated and listed in separate categories, including business, sustainability, and design, plus an overall score. The rating methodology utilized a formula generated by industry experts and was paired with judging interpretations by Architect magazine editors.

Now a Certified Passive House Consultant!

ZeroEnergy Design is proud to announce that Matthew Genaze is now a Certified Passive House Consultant!

The Passive House standard represents exceptional energy performance for homes and buildings. To become a Certified Passive House Consultant (CPHC), professionals must take comprehensive online and in-class instruction, including energy modeling, hygrothermal modeling, and rigorous testing.  67% of ZED design staff are now CPHCs.

As a Project Manager & Designer at ZeroEnergy Design, Matthew regularly utilizes his Passive House skill set.  He recently completed the design of a new zero energy home in Newton, MA, and is now overseeing it's construction, as well as working on several other high performance projects.

Dwell magazine covers the Powisset Net-Positive Barn!

This updated barn produces far more energy than it consumes each year. The super-insulated facility includes a commercial kitchen, learning/dining area, offices, and abuts a community supported agriculture (CSA) food distribution area.

Resilient Green Home wins International Green GOOD DESIGN Award

The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies and The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design presented a 2016 Green GOOD DESIGN™ Award for the Margate Resilient Residence to ZeroEnergy Design.

Green GOOD DESIGN identifies and emphasizes the world’s most important examples of sustainable design, while also helping develop public awareness about companies that provide the best in ecological and sustainable design.

The original GOOD DESIGN award program founded in Chicago in 1950 remains among the oldest and most important Awards Program worldwide.
